Nicole Philip studied medicine at the University of Marseilles, France. She was trained as pediatrician. At the end of her internship, she chose to specialize in medical genetics. She became professor of medical genetics in 1993. She worked as the head of the department of Medical Genetics of Marseille University hospital from 2002 to 2008. Currently, she is in charge of the clinical unit of this department and coordinates the Centre of Expertise for Developmental Anomalies of South France.

Her research activity is mainly clinical research on rare developmental disorders and she has participated in many national and international collaborative projects. She is interested in 22q11.2 DS since 1993 and was involved in the first European project on DiGeorge syndrome coordinated by Peter Scambler. She organized the 5th Biennial International 22q11.2DS Meeting in Marseille in 2006.
